Walking into the church room on Saturday morning, music playing, bridesmaids buzzing back and forth getting on their gowns, yet somehow there was still an air of calmness in the room. Megan was casually standing there in her white “Mrs” robe, beaming from ear to ear. I gave her a big hug and asked about how the morning had been going. She smiled and replied, “Perfect, we are ahead of schedule.” Megan had planned the day perfectly, which allowed her a moment to just relax before slipping into her Maggie Sottero wedding gown. Down the hall, Marc was hanging out with the guys as they were preparing for the big day. One of the bridesmaids snuck into the room and handed a gift to Jake. As Jake opened his gift from his bride to be, he smiled. Megan absolutely “gets” Jake. Being that Jake is a big fan of good whisky, the gift was perfectly selected. A cool and unique tie clip and cufflink set made from a reclaimed Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrel – complete with their wedding year ingrained into the wood. Jake returned the favor with a beautiful new necklace for his bride.
Before we knew it, the time had arrived for Megan and Jake’s first look. We chose the University of Dubuque campus to capture the first moment that Megan and Jake saw each other on their wedding day. The grounds are beautiful no matter the time of year. As I positioned Jake, I asked him how he was feeling. He honestly admitted that he was a little nervous. I told him not to worry because as soon as he saw how beautiful Megan was looking, his nerves would naturally melt away. As Jake turned around to see his bride, the nerves were quickly replaced with love and excitement.
The ceremony was beautiful – held at the lovely Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. With the dark wood ceilings and open natural light windows, Holy Trinity was the perfect place for Megan and Jake’s vows and rings to be exchanged. As the wedding party headed off to the river walk for portraits, guests made their way to cocktail hour.Megan and Jake’s reception was held at the always fun and unique National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. Here guests mingled during cocktail hour and were entertained by swimming fish and turtles, a tour of Dubuque brewing history and a 4D theatre. This venue is never a disappointment to guests who are fortunate enough to have such a unique and entertaining experience.
Megan and Jake – every moment of your day was beautiful. We were honored to be able to capture such a wonderful occasion. Here are a few of our favorite moments from the day.
