The weather these past couple weeks in Chicago have been positively frigid – an arctic blast that has been hanging around far past its welcome. Although we may be cursing the weather, for Lindsay and Ben it brings back memories of their first date. It was a chilly winter day when they bundled up with mittens and hats to go ice skating. Things quickly warmed up between the two of them and a few years later Ben chose a very memorable way to pop the question.
Lindsay and Ben where in Chicago visiting Lindsay’s sister and brother in law. The guys dropped the girls off at the Drake hotel, an historic, beautiful, and well-known Chicago hotel, for High Tea at the Palm Court. As the girls were enjoying their afternoon tea, the harpist began playing “All of Me” by John Legend. Lindsay’s sister, in on the planned surprise, knew what was about to happen next. Lindsay felt a tap on her shoulder. When she turned around, she saw Ben on one knee holding a ring. Lindsay was in complete shock. Once she gathered her thoughts, she threw her arms around Ben and said “YES!” I love when family can help pull off the ultimate surprise and Lindsay’s sister and brother in law did just that.
When Lindsay and I chatted about an engagement session, we knew scheduling would be a bit tricky since they reside in Texas. It was important that we plan the session while they were home on a wedding planning trip. We met up on a crisp morning in November and just as I suspected, these two were just as fun in person as they were chatting on the phone. Here are a few of my favorites from that day.
